We were given access into the top secret Juice Ball factory where the recipe is tightly guarded (and coveted). We can’t reveal ..

Trity Cafe - Richmond

Since we've been eating in Richmond quite a bit, I realized that I've been visiting countless Taiwanese restaurants that I haven't been to in years. Not to mention, I actually rarely have a full meal at bubble tea cafes -- except for my beloved Best Bubble, which has reportedly gone out of business. On this occasion, being too lazy to think, I agreed to whatever Rick could think of and went Tri-Ty Cafe 翠緹複合餐飲. I recall my last visit being nearly three years ago actually.   ..

Sweet Bubble Review - Richmond, BC

Hello again! Janice here. Today I want to share a flavour of bubble tea that is fairly new to the bubble tea scene. First, a quick intro about the café in this post: Sweet Bubble is located right in the heart of Richmond, but it’s never that busy because parking is not that convenient.  (Most people drive in Richmond.)  Thus, I usually come here to study… which is why I never wanted to post it on my own food blog! (A bit selfish on my part, but I don’t really want a huge in..

What8ver Cafe - Richmond, BC, Canada

Hi! Janice here from across the pond here in Vancouver.  I'll be contributing to this blog from now on as Kevin's interests have changed.  While his time was short, he enjoyed it and had a fun experience.  And since I basically live off of bubble tea, he thought I would be a good choice to write for Bubblelicious.  Being raised in Richmond -- which has the highest concentration of Asians in North America -- there has never been a need to leave for Vancouver to ha..

Bubblelicious Tea - December Update

‘Once again we find ourselves enmeshed in the Holiday Season, that very special time of year when we join with our loved ones in sharing centuries-old traditions such as trying to find a parking space at the mall. We traditionally do this in my family by driving around the parking lot until we see a shopper emerge from the mall, then we follow her, in very much the same spirit as the Three Wise Men, who 2,000 years ago followed a star, week after week, until it led them to a parking spac..

Bubblelicious Tea - Basil Seed Drink Recipe

Basil Seeds On our travels over to Taiwan we came across an unusual looking drink. We had no idea what it was called, nor what the little bits floating around inside were. All About Tea...

Tea is one of the most important components in a bubble tea café. Selling tea that isn’t brewed correctly is enough to ensure your customers won’t return. Why? Well, the majority of people just assume you just throw a handful of leaves in a pot, pour in a load of boiling water and leave it to brew. But what if there are too many leaves? Or too much water? What if you leave the tea to brew for too long? If you do any of these things it will impair the taste of your tea. Don’t assume the custom..

Final day in Taiwan =(

On  our return to the hotel last night, front desk bought a package up to our room, a gift from Mr Chang & co! It was a box of Tai Yang (sun) Cakes and pineapple cakes! We had mentioned at some point that we wanted to buy some, but hadn't had time. Mr Chang had been thoughtful enough to remember this and went out and got some for us. We were so touched! It was a lovely gift, we're sure everyone will enjoy them when we get back to the UK and  the taste of them will bring back mem..

Day 6 in Taiwan

This will be our last full day here in Taichung =( We are up early and make our way to the office of another one of our suppliers. Its another scorcher today but I think we've gotten used to it! And we certainly wouldn't complain if it was like this everyday back home- but only if there's air con everywhere! When we get to the office Mr L comes to greet us. His office is full of samples of powders, syrups, teas and equipment. There is a table set up with beakers, mixers and cocktail shake..

Day 5 in Taiwan

We met another one of our suppliers today. They kindly offered to pick us up from our hotel, so we went to meet them down in the hotel lobby at 10:00am. We are greeted by Mr Chang, the company director and his colleague Ryan, who tell us that they will be taking us to visit the actual tapioca factory where the pearls are made. This is exactly the the sort of thing we wanted to do whilst we were visiting, as it will give us insight into the whole process of how one of the most important compon..

We are spending another day training with Ms J today, and we will actually be filming some of our videos! Armed with the knowledge that Ms J had bestowed on us, we begin our shooting at the BBT counter bar in the office. Being able to train here is great, as we have all the relevant equipment all set up, with all the necessary ingredients, so we really get a feel of what it would be like to run a BBT cafe, and can roughly estimate how long it would take to make the drinks. Day 3 in Taiwan

Today we go out to visit the first of our manufacturers. Taiwanese people are notoriously shy, so we won't mention their names out of respect for them! One of the company's associates, Mr A, came to collect us from the hotel. The manufacturers is about a 15 minute drive away. We ask about the Taiwanese culture, and Mr A answers all our questions on the way there. We learn that Taiwanese people are very hard working and that family is very important to them. So far everyone we have spoken to h..

Day 2 in Taiwan

Warning - Picture heavy post! Awaking to our first morning in Taiwan, it is a gloriously sunny day outside! We wonder outside of our hotel looking for somewhere to eat. We don't have to look very far. There is a Vietnamese restaurant just around the corner called Quan An Viet Nam (Section 2, ZiYou Rd) and we pop in for a bowl of Pho. For those unfamiliar with Pho, it is a flat noodle in soup served with a meat of your choice, thinly sliced onions, bean sprouts and green herbs.   ..

Twinkle 2 - Richmond, Canada

Twinkle 2 is an offshoot or a franchised out location of the original and wildly popular Twinkle location.. which I've never been to. The crowd just wasn't my type, many young highschool kids, usually very loud and talking about their latest mom-and-dad gifts from Asia. That seems to be the case here as well, but fortunately my visit was still early in the evening so none of the aforementioned were present. Just me and a group of friends took up the restaurant. L&G Review - Vancouver, Canada

There's a place near my house that I frequent for great ice cream bubbletea, but when I stopped by they were busy like an ice cream truck on a hot summers day. Vancouverites are a funny bunch, at the first sign of sun we all clamour for cold drinks, even if the sun offers no warmth during May. Since I was rushed for time and was going to be late for ultimate practice, I walked back to a store I passed earlier. I've never tried them, but on this one block itself there are three bubbletea place..
